Speare Memorial Hospital Expands Gastroenterology Services with Dr. Jonathan Lamphier at Plymouth General Surgery

Dr. Joseph Casey
Dr. Casey specializes in endoscopy, colonoscopy and skin lesion procedures in our Acid Reflux & Heartburn Center and Wound Care & Hyperbaric Medicine Center. Board-certified by the American Board of Surgery, Dr. Casey is a graduate of Tufts University School of Medicine and completed his surgical residency training at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Boston.

Dr. James Koren, Jr.
A practicing surgeon since 2001, and board-certified by the American Board of Surgery, Dr. Koren is a highly experienced surgeon, specializing in minimally invasive surgeries and advanced laparoscopic procedures including complicated hernias, colon resections, stomach ulcers and a procedure for heartburn/reflux. He received his doctorate from the Ohio State University and completed his surgical residency at Saint Elizabeth Medical Center in Youngstown, followed by a fellowship at Saint Peter´s University Hospital in New Brunswick, New Jersey.

Dr. E. James Hanowell
Specializing in advanced laparoscopic surgery, Dr. Hanowell has significant experience in minimally invasive surgery, reflux surgery, colon resection, complex hernia repair, thyroid surgery, gallbladder surgery, colonoscopies, endoscopies, breast surgery, cancer surgery, trauma surgery, and biopsies. Dr. Hanowell is a graduate of Bucknell University and the University of New England College of Medicine. He completed post-graduate training in general surgery at Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha where he was chief resident.

Dr. Jonathan Lamphier
For over 20 years, Dr. Jonathan Lamphier has been helping patients find relief from digestive disorders. A board-certified gastroenterologist, Dr. Lamphier specializes in diagnosing and treating conditions like acid reflux, swallowing disorders, ulcers, abdominal pain, irritable bowel syndrome, constipation/diarrhea, inflammatory bowel disease, liver disease, and more. He also performs endoscopic procedures, including upper endoscopy (EGD), colonoscopies, esophageal dilation, and treatments for gastrointestinal bleeding to support long-term health. Dr. Lamphier earned his medical degree at Boston University School of Medicine and completed his fellowship training in digestive diseases at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia.

Dr. Alice Rocke
Board-certified by the American Board of Surgery, Dr. Rocke has more than thirty years of experience as a highly skilled surgeon with vast clinical knowledge. She earned her medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin and completed her residency in general surgery at Western Pennsylvania Hospital. She is committed to delivering high-quality patient care and understanding each patient's unique needs.

Ashley Vittum, APRN
Ashley Vittum, APRN, earned her bachelor’s degree in Nursing through the accelerated nursing program at Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. She spent most of her nursing career working in primary care. She then obtained her master’s degree in Nursing from Chamberlain University and transitioned from the role of RN to APRN in the primary care setting. She decided to expand her knowledge and skill set in a specialty area and spent four years caring for patients suffering from chronic pain.
