October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and Speare Memorial Hospital is putting a spotlight on early detection, advanced treatment, and ongoing support for women and families affected by breast cancer.

At Speare’s women’s imaging center, patients have access to cutting-edge technology, including 3D mammography and image-guided breast biopsies. Accredited by the American College of Radiology, the center provides tools that help detect and diagnose breast cancer with precision. Unlike traditional surgical biopsies, image-guided biopsies are minimally invasive, faster, and less stressful for patients.

But Speare’s care goes beyond diagnosis. Many women face challenges in managing side effects, reducing recurrence risk, and rebuilding physical and emotional strength after treatment. To address these needs, the hospital is developing educational resources focused on two areas: helping patients understand image-guided breast biopsies and supporting healthy living during survivorship.

“We know that information can be empowering,” says Linda Nestor, director of imaging services at Speare. “When patients understand their procedures and have the tools to take care of themselves after treatment, it makes a real difference in their confidence and recovery.”

This October, the hospital is inviting the community to help bring these resources to life. Donations will support the printing and distribution of educational materials, ensuring patients and families have access to clear, compassionate information. By combining advanced technology with a patient-centered approach, Speare Memorial Hospital continues to provide women in central New Hampshire with high-quality imaging care close to home.
