Comic Book Day 2015Speare Memorial Hospital has a vibrant and active group of volunteers helping out in various capacities. Each month the team comes up with different ways to brighten patient’s visits with us. Today, September 25th, was National Comic Book Day and they purchased a variety of different comic books featuring superheroes including Superman, Batman, the X-Men, the Punisher and more.

Volunteers Pat Corbin and MaryAnn Adams visited each patient’s room, chatted with them for a bit and offered them their choice of comic book. They also dropped off comics in waiting/resting rooms throughout the hospital.

In addition to just being fun to read, comic books have been shown to increase literacy and have health benefits such as igniting the imagination, evoking emotion, sparking a memory and raising the happiness quotient.
